The use of color, the sense of a moment in time such as seeing the setting of the sun and the closeness of her Ontario based home to northern Canadian wildlife are facets that she thrives for in her paintings.
Helga was born and raised in Germany. She earned a degree in photography at the school of photography in Berlin and worked for years as a professional photographer in portrait studios and the Metropol Theater, capturing stage performances.
Despite the indoor work, she always loved the outdoors. While Helga is a self-taught artist, she took courses and workshops, corresponding with her wide field of interest.
" Living in Northern Ontario makes it possible for me to experience the great outdoors first hand. Nature is always a source of inspiration for me, either being out in the field painting or portraying people in the studio. For me the chalenge in portrait painting is how well can I paint my subject to connect to the viewer. With a background as a professional photographer I like to portray the world around me in a direct style to capture a moment in time in a wide range of subject matters. Oil is my media of choice."
